“I imagine that one day I will visit or live in Turkey!”
Thank you! So then, let me give you some tips to live in Turkey. So number 1, all the fruits and vegetables are very cheap in Turkey, so it’s basically very cheap which is a good thing, right? You can get fat easily. You can go to any supermarket or, you know, anywhere that sells food and you will see what I mean. Or the restaurants like Kebab salons, like that, they’re also very cheap.
But number 2, gasoline is very expensive in Turkey, very expensive, but everyone has a car, so I don’t know. I think it’s because car is the most convenient transportation if you’re living in Turkey. But of course, you don’t have to have a car. I mean you can use public transport. The most common public transport is bus in Turkey. So, you can save money with that too by using bus.
And number 3, my number 3 tip is you need to learn Turkish. Definitely, because not everyone can speak English or other foreign languages and, especially, like in government offices, you will have a really hard time, so that’s why, at least like some conversational-level Turkish, you need to speak.
2. Türk kültürünün diğer yönlerini de öğreniyorum, bu da Türkçe öğrenmeyi daha tatmin edici hale getiriyor.
“I study other aspects of the culture too, which makes it more rewarding to study Turkish.

Okay, other aspects of Turkish culture, what it can be? Maybe… oh yes, so one of our traditions, a kind of tradition, but Turkish people would like to have good relationships with their neighbors. It’s very important, especially if you’re living in an apartment. You can just visit your neighbors. You can maybe cook something and, just, you can give to them. So it’s really important to have a good relationship. Maybe, I mean, building good relationship with neighbors can also help you improve your Turkish too, right? You can talk with them, you can improve your Turkish, they can teach you some cultural aspects. Try that!
3. Öğrenmekte olduğum Türkçe'de komik sözcükler bulmayı severim.

Öğrenmekte olduğum Türkçe'de komik sözcükler bulmayı severim.
“I like to find funny words in Turkish!”
What it can be? I mean funny words in terms of pronunciation or the meaning? Hmm, funny words. Okay, I like to give you an example, but I’m not sure if it will be funny for you or not. So, the word is tosun and tosun is basically a word that is used for animals like cows, and we use it for people, so how come? If the person is like, you know, a bit... fatty, I don’t wanna say fatty like chubby and maybe like tall and with like red cheeks, you know, like this and then we say, wow, like, “A boy like tosun,” we say and in Turkish, it is like this…
Tosun gibi.
“Just like a tosun.”
And I think it’s funny, well like, for me, tosun, tosun gibi sözcükler, like that.
4. Türkçe konuşan insanlarla arkadaş olurum.
“I make friends with people who speak Turkish.”

“I enjoy using Turkish to order at Turkish restaurant!”
Okay, if you like it then I’m gonna teach you some sentences to order in Turkish. So, let’s say I’m in a restaurant right now and I want to call the waiter or waitress, you say it like this…
Pardon, bakar mısınız?
Which means “Um, sorry, can you look here?”
Or you can say…
Pardon, garson bey?
Which means “Waitress/Waiter, can you look at here?”
And, let’s say you want some menu, you want to see the menu, then you say…
Menüyü alabilir miyim?
Menüyü is “menu.”
Menüyü alabilir miyim?
Or, if it’s too long for you, just say…
Menü lütfen.
Which means “Menu please.”
Okay now, you eat your dinner or lunch and you finish and now you want to pay and go back. That time, you say…
Hesap, lütfen.
Hesap, lütfen.
Which means “Bill, please.” I want to pay.
Oh, and, if you’re going to a Turkish restaurant, then, you need to know this word, bahşiş, which means “tip” because we have tipping in Turkey. I don’t know if it’s good to hear for you or not, but, I mean… depending on the quality of the service they provide you, you can tip them, and it is very common in Turkey. We call it bahşiş “tip.”
6. Başarılı bir şekilde Türkçe öğrenmiş olan insanların Youtube videolarını izlerim.
“I watch YouTube videos of other people who have successfully learned Turkish.”

“I watch YouTube videos of other people who have successfully learned Turkish.”
I actually watched like foreigners who can speak Turkish in their YouTube channel. I can give you if you want an example, but I’m not sure if he is still uploading videos or not. His channel is called Matthew LeBleu, I think, this is how you read. I’m sorry if it’s wrong. And, as far as I know, he is American, but I think he lived in Turkey or he still lives in Turkey and he speaks fluent Turkish, really good. You cannot even understand he’s American. So if you want, you can check his videos.
7. Türkçe şarkılara eşlik edebilirim.

“I can sing along to Turkish songs.”
Are you sure? Okay, if you trust your Turkish knowledge, then challenge Turkish rap, how about that? How about that? So, try to sing Ceza. Ceza is a Turkish rapper and he sings so fast, so, if… if you really like trust your language skills in Turkey, Turkish, then just challenge yourself, Ceza.
8. Türkiye'deki haberleri takip edebilirim.
“I can follow the news in Turkey.”
Türkiye'deki haberleri takip edebilirim.

“I can follow the news in Turkey.”
I think it’s also another good motivation because you need to follow the news, I mean the country you’re living in, right? It’s important. We call main “news bulletin” in Turkish, Ana haber bülteni, Ana haber bülteni. Many people are watching news from television, it’s very common, or some people like to read newspapers. But recently, we are reading online newspapers.
9. Türk ünlülere Türkçe sevgi mesajları gönderebilirim.
“I can send love messages to Turkish celebrities.”

“I can send love messages to Turkish celebrities.”
It’s a really good motivation. If you’re a fan of a celebrity like a Turkish celebrity, then I’m sure it will motivate you, yes, to learn Turkish. Yeah, well, we don’t send letters to them anymore I think, but… oh yeah, many of them are using Instagram, so maybe you can comment to their pictures, yeah? Right? No? Or you can send them a direct message, but most of them, they are not replying to direct message, so you can just comment to their pictures.
10. Yabancı dil öğrenmek zihni geliştirir.
“Learning a foreign language trains your brain.”
Yabancı dil öğrenmek zihni geliştirir.
Yabancı dil öğrenmek zihni geliştirir.
“Learning a foreign language trains your brain.”
So, this is, I think not just a motivation for Turkish language, but for any language, even for me, I think, right? Because if you’re not using your brain for a long time, then you will see that your understanding ability decreases. So, training your brain is very important. Learning a new language is a very good way to train your brain.
And we’re finished for today, yeah! Today’s lesson was a bit long, I think, but I gave you 10 reasons or 10 ways to motivate yourself if you want to learn Turkish or if you are learning Turkish. I hope to see you guys in the next video. See you guys later. Bye-bye!
