| In this lesson, we'll help you check in! In Turkey, there are hotels, guesthouses, and hostels, among many others. Let's jump right into the lesson! |
| In Turkey, when you get to a hotel and you want to check in, you can use two possible phrases. If you have already booked the room and you want to say, "I have a reservation under the name (someone)." In Turkish, it is Birisi adına bir rezervasyonum var. Let's break it down: Bi-ri-si a-dı-na bir re-zer-va-syo-num var. Once more, Birisi adına bir rezervasyonum var. |
| The first word Birisi means "someone," but you should replace it with a name you made the reservation. Next, we have Adına, means "under the name" or "behalf of the name." A-dı-na. Adına. Bir, as you can recall, is like the English "a" or "an." Bir. Bir. Next, we have the noun Rezervasyonum, which literally means "my reservation." Re-zer-va-syo-num. Rezervasyonum. Then we have Var, which means "there exists" or "I have." Var. Var. At the beginning of the sentence, you're supposed to insert your name. |
| All together, we have Birisi adına bir rezervasyonum var. This means, "I have a reservation under the name of (someone)." |
| So, if your name is Jones, you would say, Jones adına bir rezervasyonum var. Jones a-dı-na bir re-zer-va-syo-num var. Jones adına bir rezervasyonum var. Or, "I have a reservation under the name of Jones." |
| If you have not booked the room yet, the phrase "I would like a room" in Turkish is Bir oda istiyorum. Let's break it down: Bir o-da is-ti-yo-rum. Once more, Bir oda istiyorum. |
| The first word, Bir, is like the word "a" or "an" as you recall. Oda, means "room." O-da. Oda. Then, we have Istiyorum, meaning "I would like to." Is-ti-yo-rum. Istiyorum. |
| All together: Bir oda istiyorum, "I would like one room." |
| You will most likely be asked, "Can I get your name, please." In Turkish, this is Adınızı alabilir miyim lütfen? |
| Let's break it down: A-dı-nı-zı a-la-bi-lir mi-yim lüt-fen? Once more, Adınızı alabilir miyim lütfen? |
| The first word, Adınızı, is a way to say "Your name." A-dı-nı-zı. Adınızı. Alabilir miyim means "Could I get." A-la-bi-lir mi-yim. Alabilir miyim. And last, Lütfen, "please," which we have already learned in previous lessons. |
| Altogether, that's Adınızı alabilir miyim lütfen? Adınızı alabilir miyim lütfen? "Could I get your name, please?" |
| Remember, this phrase is only used in high official circumstances. So, don't try to start a conversation with this line in Turkish. People will think you're the police. |
| You might also be asked, "Can you spell it?" In Turkish, this is Heceler misiniz lütfen? Let's break it down: He-ce-ler mi-si-niz lütfen? Once more, Heceler misiniz lütfen? |
| The first word, Heceler means "spell." He-ce-ler. Heceler. The word after it, Misiniz, makes it mean "Can you spell it." He-ce-ler mi-si-niz. Heceler misiniz. The next word, Lütfen, means "please." |
| All together: Heceler misiniz lütfen? Heceler misiniz lütfen? |
