Survival Phrases, Lesson 38: Turkish hotel, "I would like to have more of this, please."
In this lesson, we'll introduce you to some more useful phrases for hotels and the like. The first phrase is "What time is checkout?" In Turkish, this is Saat kaçta çıkış yapılıyor? Let's break it down: Sa-at kaç-ta çı-kış ya-pı-lı-yor? Once more, Saat kaçta çıkış yapılıyor?
The first two words, Saat kaçta, mean "at what time" in English. Sa-at kaç-ta. Saat kaçta. Then, you have Çıkış, which means "check out." It can also mean "exit." Çı-kış. Çıkış. After that, you have Yapılıyor, which is "should be done." Ya-pı-lı-yor. Yapılıyor.
All together: Saat kaçta çıkış yapılıyor? Saat kaçta çıkış yapılıyor? "What time is the check out?"
Let's try to ask, "Can I have some soap?" This is Sabun alabilir miyim? Let's break it down: Sa-bun a-la-bi-lir mi-yim? Once more, Sabun alabilir miyim?
The first word, Sabun, means "soap." Sa-bun. Sabun. The last Alabilir miyim means "can I get." A-la-bi-lir mi-yim. Alabilir miyim.
All together, that is Sabun alabilir miyim? Sabun alabilir miyim?
Here are some additional things you may ask for when you are staying in a hotel.
Havlu "Towel" Hav-lu. Havlu.
Diş fırçası "Toothbrush" Diş fır-ça-sı. Diş fırçası.
Diş macunu "Toothpaste" Diş ma-cu-nu. Diş macunu.
Şampuan "Shampoo" Şam-pu-an. Şampuan.
You can use these words in the sentence above by replacing the noun Sabun with any other item and don't forget to add "please," Lütfen, in order to be polite at the end of the sentence.
