Lesson focus

Survival Phrases, Lesson 39: Turkish post office, part 1. Sending letters, postcards, and packages home.
In this lesson, we're going to take a trip to the post office. The post office in Turkey is Postane. Pos-ta-ne. Postane. Its colors are orange and white, and you can find an orange mailbox outside of the building.
In this lesson, we're going to work on getting your postcards, letters, and packages home. The expression we need to accomplish this is, "I would like to send this to..." and then the desired destination. For today's lesson, we'll use Italy.
In Turkish, "I would like to send this to Italy" is Bunu İtalya'ya göndermek istiyorum. Let's break it down: Bu-nu İ-tal-ya-'ya gön-der-mek is-ti-yo-rum. Once more, Bunu İtalya'ya göndermek istiyorum.
The first word, Bunu, means, "this one." Bu-nu. Bunu. Next we have İtalya' ya, which in English is "to Italy." İ-tal-ya-' ya. Again, İtalya' ya. İtalya' ya. Then, we have Göndermek, which is "to send". Gön-der-mek. Göndermek. Finally, we have Istiyorum, which means "I would like to." Is-ti-yo-rum. Istiyorum.
All together, we have Bunu İtalya'ya göndermek istiyorum. Bunu İtalya'ya göndermek istiyorum. Literally, this means "I would like to send this to Italy."
Let's look at the other words. We were talking about packages, letters, and postcards. So, let's try to send a postcard!
"Postcard" in Turkish is Kartpostal. Kart-pos-tal. Kartpostal.
"I would like to send this postcard to Italy" in Turkish is Bu kartpostalı İtalya'ya göndermek istiyorum. Let's break it down: Bu kart-pos-ta-lı İ-tal-ya-'ya gön-der-mek is-ti-yo-rum. Once more, Bu kartpostalı İtalya'ya göndermek istiyorum.
Bu kartpostalı means "this postcard." Bu kart-pos-ta-lı. Bu kartpostalı.
Simply replace the Bunu in the first sentence with Bu kartpostalı to get Bu kartpostalı İtalya'ya göndermek istiyorum.
Now, let's try "letter," which in Turkish is Mektup. Mek-tup. Mektup.
"This letter" is Bu mektubu. Bu mek-tu-bu.
By substituting this into the first sentence, we can get "I would like to send this letter to Italy," or Bu mektubu İtalya'ya göndermek istiyorum. Bu mek-tu-bu İ-tal-ya-'ya gön-der-mek is-ti-yo-rum.
Okay. Now, let's try to send a package. In Turkish, "I would like to send this package to Italy" is Bu paketi İtalya'ya göndermek istiyorum.
"Package" in Turkish is Paket, but it changes here to become Paketi. Pa-ke-ti. Paketi.
All together we have Bu paketi İtalya'ya göndermek istiyorum.
Now, the package requires a closer look, which we'll take in the next lesson.
