Turkish Survival Phrases, Lesson 40: Turkish post office, part 1. "What is in this package?"
In this lesson, we're going to work on getting your package one step closer to its intended destination. In the previous lesson, we discussed the phrase "I would like to send this package to Italy," which was Bu paketi İtalya'ya göndermek istiyorum. Bu pa-ke-ti İ-tal-ya-'ya gön-der-mek is-ti-yo-rum. Bu paketi İtalya'ya göndermek istiyorum.
Again, the location is interchangeable. We can change Italy -- in Turkish, Italya, to any other country.
When sending a package though, you will probably have to explain what's inside it. In Turkish, "What's in the package?" is Paketin içinde ne var? Let's break it down: Pa-ke-tin i-çin-de ne var? Once more, Paketin içinde ne var?
The first word Paketin is a form of the word for "package." Pa-ke-tin. Paketin. After this comes the word Içinde, or "inside." I-çin-de. Içinde. Next, we have the word Ne, "what." Ne. Ne. Then, we have Var, the verb "there is." Var. Var.
All together, it's Paketin içinde ne var? Paketin içinde ne var? "What's inside the package?"
If you want to be sure to name all the things you are sending correctly, English is perfectly acceptable.
Another way they can ask you "What's in the package?" is Pakette neler bulunuyor? "What does the package contain?" Let's break it down: Pa-ket-te ne-ler bu-lu-nu-yor? Once more, Pakette neler bulunuyor?
The first word, Pakette, means "in the package." Pa-ket-te. Pakette. Then, you have Neler, or "what." Ne-ler. Neler. Finally, you have Bulunuyor, "can contain." Bu-lu-nu-yor. Bulunuyor.
All together, we have Pa-ket-te ne-ler bu-lu-nu-yor? Pakette neler bulunuyor? "What does the package contain?"
Please remember that even in Turkey, as in many other countries, there are some rules for things you can and cannot send. You can learn about this by visiting the Turkish post website.

Outro

Okay, to close out today's lesson, we would you to practice what you have just learned. I will provide you with the English equivalent of the phrase and you're responsible for shouting it aloud. You have a few seconds before I give you the answer. So, Iyi şanslar, which means "good luck" in Turkish.
