Turkish Survival Phrases, Lesson 44: "One ticket to a culturally-rich stay in Turkey, please."
There is so much to do and see in Turkey, and there are times when access to some must-see places requires an admission ticket. So, in this lesson, we're going to work on getting you through the gate as we will look at buying tickets.
In Turkey, ticket is Bilet. Let's break it down: Bi-let. Once again, Bilet.
In Turkish, "one ticket, please" is Bir bilet, lütfen. Let's break it down: Bir bi-let lüt-fen. Once again, Bir bilet lütfen.
The first word Bir means, "one." Bir. Bir. Next, we have Bilet, which in Turkish is "ticket." Bi-let. Bilet. To recap here, we have Bir bilet. Let's look at the next word, which you know very well, Lütfen, and it means, "please." So all together, we have Bir bilet lütfen. Literally, this means, "a ticket, please." We'll work on getting tickets for the rest of the party now.
Let's recap numbers from one to ten.
"one" - bir
"two"- iki
"three"- üç
"four" - dört
"five" - beş
"six" - altı
"seven" - yedi
"eight" - sekiz
"nine" - dokuz
"ten" - on
"Three tickets, please" in Turkish is Üç bilet lütfen. Let's break it down: Üç bi-let lüt-fen. Once again, Üç bilet lütfen.
The first word Üç means, "three." Üç. Üç. Next, we have Bilet in the same form of before. Bi-let. Bilet.
So all together, we have Üç bilet lütfen. Literally, this means, "Three tickets, please."
"Five tickets, please" in Turkish is Beş bilet lütfen. Let's break it down: Beş bi-let lüt-fen.
Once again, Beş bilet lütfen.
Very often, you may be asked to show your ticket at places other than the entrance. So, keep these admissions with you until you leave the place you are visiting. They will ask you, Biletiniz lütfen. Let's break it down: Bi-le-ti-niz lüt-fen. This means, "Your ticket, please." The first word is Biletiniz, "your ticket" in polite form. Bi-le-ti-niz. Biletiniz. Then, you have Lütfen, "please."
One more time, all together, that is Biletiniz lütfen.
