INTRODUCTION
Gina: In each lesson of this 25 part series, you'll master a common question for Turkish learners, and then learn how to answer it like a native. You'll learn how these key phrases work by breaking them down into each component. Then through repetition and new vocabulary, you'll expand your understanding of the question, its answers, and any variations.

Lesson focus

Gina: In this lesson, you'll learn how to respond to the common question How are you? In Turkish this is
Ece: Nasılsınız?
Gina: The first and only word in the question is
Ece: Nasılsınız?
Gina: meaning how are you in English.
Ece: (Slow, by syllable) Nasılsınız?
Gina: Listen again and repeat.
Ece: Nasılsınız?
{Pause}
Gina: This pattern of first introducing a word at natural speed, providing the translation, breaking it down, and then giving it again at natural speed will be repeated throughout the series. Try to speak aloud as often as possible.
Gina: Now master the following pattern and responses to the question How are you??
Ece: İyiyim.
Gina: ""I'm fine.. Again, slowly. Repeat the phrase.
Ece: (Slow) İyiyim.
{pause}
Gina: Note that this sentence is only made up of one word. Once again, listen to the speaker say, I'm fine., and then repeat.
Ece: İyiyim.
{pause}
Gina: To use a different phrase, replace fine with not well..
Ece: İyi değilim.
Gina: not well.
Ece: (slow) İyi değilim. (regular) İyi değilim.
Gina: Listen to the phrase again, this time with not well.
Ece: İyi değilim.
Gina: Replace "fine", and say I'm not well..
{pause}
Ece: İyi değilim.
Gina: To expand on the pattern, replace not well. with excellent.
Ece: Çok iyiyim
Gina: excellent
Ece: (slow) Çok iyiyim (regular) Çok iyiyim
Gina: Listen to the phrase again, this time with excellent
Ece: Çok iyiyim
Gina: Replace "not well", and say I'm excellent.
{pause}
Ece: Çok iyiyim
Gina: To use a different phrase, replace excellent with so-so.
Ece: Eh işte.
Gina: so-so
Ece: (slow) Eh işte. (regular) Eh işte.
Gina: Listen to the phrase again, this time with so-so
Ece: Eh işte.
Gina: Replace "excellent", and say I'm so-so.

Ece: Eh işte.
