Lesson Transcript

Hi everyone, this is Selin and welcome to Turkish Weekly Words. So today, we will be talking about your face. Yüzün, “face” is yüz. Yüzün, your face.
And our first word is,
1. göz "eye"
Can you see my eye color? My example is,
Gözlerin çok güzel. "Your eyes are very beautiful."
It’s a compliment. You can say this to a lady, right? In Turkey, if you want to compliment your lady that, oh, your eyes are very big, then we use the word, eşek gözü, it means “donkey eye”. Do you know donkey? So it’s kind of good thing. If you say this, then, they will be really thankful. They will say, oh really, oh thank you.
2. burun "nose"
If you are not happy with your nose, if you think it’s too big, then you will say like,
Burnum çok büyük. "My nose is too big."
3. dudak "lip"
Angelina Jolie'nin çok büyük dudakları var. "Angelina Jolie has very big lips."
Don’t you agree?
4. kaş "eyebrow"
Kaş, can you see my eyebrows? My friends say, my eyebrows are very thin actually but I like that way. So they say,
Kaşların çok ince. It means like, oh "Your eyebrows are very thin."
5. yanak "cheek"
For example, if you think that a girl has very beautiful cheeks, you can say like,
Yanakları kırmızı kırmızı. Which means like "Her cheeks are very red."
To emphasize, we say the word twice kırmızı kırmızı. Kırmızı is red. So it’s like red red.
